women's player development


Many of the clubs within Devon are part of the Local Rugby Partnership (LRP), which is a nationwide scheme, which has shown success in growing players from 15,000 to 25,000 in four years.

In addition this year additional funds (approximately £3,800 per year) are available from Devon RFU for women and girls development (non-representative rugby). 

In our first deadline in February 2017 we awarded £1,885 to support projects at five clubs across Devon. We have approximately £2,000 left to spend on similar ventures in our final deadline for this season (May 1, 2017)

These funds can be used to establish or grow women and/or girls rugby within your club in many different ways, for example by funding a “pitch-up-and-play” session, to buy new equipment vital for sustaining your growth, or flyers.

To apply to access these funds you will need to submit an application form (see below or email Katie Lunnon for one) and submit to Katie Lunnon, women’s rugby lead for Devon by the deadline at katielunnon@hotmail.com.

Your application should detail a growth action plan on how you would use a funding grant from Devon RFU to grow and develop women & girls at your club, taking into consideration:

• Welcoming club environment

• Marketing and promotion 

• Player recruitment 

• Workforce

• Kit & equipment

• What is the return on investment

Once you have applied for funds your application will be passed to a committee who review all applications and will award the grant based on merit. We will prioritise funding for recruitment events that will grow the number of women and/or girls playing rugby at your club. Lower priority will be the funding of equipment. We will not usually fund kit (ie playing shirts). 

If you are successful Devon RFU will then pay the grant award to your club, on the condition that you submit a report after the funds have been spent detailing the impact that the grant has made on growth at your club.

All clubs in Devon with a women’s or girls’ team are eligible to apply.

Please note that there will be up to one month turnaround between the deadline and us being able to communicate the results of the round, to allow us to independently review all applications. Please bare this in mind with applying, so as not to have an event that would start before 01/06/17.
