Women's representative rugby

This season the Devon women's representative squad will be competing in the Gill Burns County Championship for their fifth season.

This season the team in May will play in Division Two, playing Hertfordshire, Essex and Hampshire RFU. Devon women will this season also play a warm up game against Dings Crusaders women in Bristol on April 24, 2022

Selection, trials and training

This season DRFU will be holding two open trials and women interested in being part of the squad must attend at least one session to be considered for the squad.

The sessions will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Plymstock Albion Oaks RFC and Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Teignmouth RFC.

Please turn up to the sessions for 9:30am and the trials will start at 9:45am promptly. If you are planning on attending, please use this link to register your interest and let us know which of the subsequent games and training sessions you could attend: https://forms.gle/JKZBvyLrivqANPQa6.

It is important you pre-register for the trials so that we have medical information ahead of time and can plan sessions for the correct numbers.

After the trials we will select a squad, which will be communicated by the end of March 2022. Weekly training will commence from  April 13, 2022 on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm (location TBC).

Management and Coaching Team:

Team Manager: Katie Lunnon

Katie is women’s rugby lead within Devon RFU and has completed the RFU leadership academy. She has been running the Devon women’s representative team since it was re-established in 2015. For the last two seasons she has also taken on the role of women’s player development within Devon RFU. Katie has been living in Devon since 2013, and in 2014 she was involved in setting up the new Topsham ladies rugby team, where she was club captain for three years until the end of the 2016/17 season when she stepped down as she was expecting a baby.

 

Head Coach: Greg Richards

Greg joined the Devon women’s representative coaching team during the 2016/17 season as an assistant coach, working primarily with the forwards, and was head coach last season. Greg will again be heading the coaching team this year, as well as working with the backs. Greg is a level 2 qualified coach who is working towards his level 3 qualification. He has six years’ experience of coaching women’s rugby, having coached Cullompton ladies since the 2013/14 season, who play in the Championship South 2 league.
