THE first set of Devon RFU junior festivals successfully took place at the weekend.

The under-nine event was held at Honiton, the under-10s at Exeter Saracens, the under-13s at Tavistock, the under-15s at Crediton and the under-16s at Topsham.

Up to the ages of under-13 the festivals are just about participation, but the older age group events do have trophies for winners and runners-up.

Cullompton continued their good record in the festivals by winning the under-15 boys’ sevens event at Crediton. They overcame Topsham 29-12 in the final, which was a mini dress rehearsal for next weekend’s Devon Under-15 Cup.

Withycombe won the under-15 plate at the festival by edging out Barnstaple 19-10 in the final, while DHSOB claimed the shield with a narrow 21-20 win over Kingsbridge.

This coming weekend will see the under-sevens (Ivybridge), under-eights (Ivybridge), under-11 (Kingsbridge), under-12 (Totnes) and under-14s (Plymstock Albion Oaks) festivals.

Meanwhile, the under-14 age group held their Devon Cup finals at the weekend at Topsham.

Topsham took the main honours with a narrow 17-15 win over Withycombe, while Ivybridge triumphed in the plate final by beating Brixham 52-5.
