Devon Under-15 girls bid to finish season with 100 per cent record

DEVON Under-15 girls will attempt to finish their season with a 100 per cent record on Sunday when they play Cornwall at Drybrook.

The young Devon side have so far overcome Oxfordshire 22-0 and Gloucestershire 36-12 in their opening two South West Counties’ fixtures.

Coach Hammy Kerswill has been really pleased with how the side have played this year and he is optimistic about this weekend’s match.

“We have had a tricky selection for this Sunday's Tamar Cup game against Cornwall,” said Kerswill.

“Having a squad of 30 players was always going to bring disappointment when it comes to matchday squads of 22, but all 30 girls have rightfully represented the county this season and have bright futures ahead.

“With a younger and smaller Devon side this year I was expecting a hard time up front, but we have dominated the set piece and the forward battle in our previous two wins against Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.

“Cornwall are a larger outfit up front than previous opposition so I think the game may well be determined by who starts and finishes better.”

He added: “We have won the previous six encounters with Cornwall and have an 10-2 record over them in the last 12 years. That being said, it will be a no holds bar game with both teams up for a battle as with any Devon v Cornwall representative match.

“But I am optimistic of a victory and finishing the season with 100 per cent, but it shan't be easy.”
