A highly successful pitch-up-and-play event was held in Plymouth on Monday evening.

An impressive 35 players turned up at Keyham to take part in the session, hosted by Devon RFU.

It meant there were enough players to make a three-way 10s tournament.

Three clubs Devonport Services, Tamar Saracens and Plymouth Argaum provided the bulk of the players, with any individuals joining their sides.

Devonport Services’ had a ‘proper’ veterans team, which included the likes of Dan Parkes, Dave Oakley and Bryan Crichton, but it was Tamar Saracens’ youthfulness that saw them remain unbeaten on the night.

In the battle for second, the Argaum side just snatched a one-try win with the last play of the match against Services.

Afterwards all the players enjoyed a beer and some food.

Devon RFU community coach Mike Lewis said: “It was a really good night. We had 35 players and played four good games of rugby.

“I think everyone had a good time. It was brilliant to see everyone come together.”

Lewis admitted it was likely they might look at repeating the evening in the new year.
