THREE players from Devon have been named in the England Deaf side for their opening Test match against New Zealand on November 4.

Crediton’s Wayne Reed, Okehampton’s Paul Lawrence and Tamar Saracens’ Steve Hodge are all included in the England 23-man matchday squad for the game at Blackheath, which will be the first of a three-match series.

Fellow Devonians Steve Moran of Salcombe and Tom Phillips of Crediton are also part of England’s extended training squad.

The team for the first Test was selected after an inter-squad trial match last weekend at Stowe in Buckinghamshire.

The second Test will be on Wednesday, November 8 at Harlow, with the final one on November 12 at Barking.

“For any rugby player at any international level the All Blacks are the team to face,” said experienced centre Hodge. “It does not really get much bigger in the rugby world.”
