DEVON Under-18s began their preparations for the South West Championship with a 21-12 victory over Exeter Chiefs’ Outreach Academy at Flowerpot Field on Sunday.

The young Devon side made a storming start and had scored three converted tries within the opening 23 minutes.

Exmouth's Joseph Oates scored the first from close range following a good maul. Exmouth’s Harry Ottaway converted.

Then four minutes later Devonport Services hooker Reece Bartlett broke through and scored on the right, with Ottaway again converting.

Bartlett then added a second try after more good pressure by Devon, with Ottaway again adding the extras.

Devon defended well and stopped a number of Exeter chances. Both teams made changes and in the final quarter Exeter managed two tries.
