EXETER College’s Richard Capstick flies out to South Africa this weekend with the England Under-18 squad for their summer development tour.

The England squad will take on France, Wales and South Africa Schools during the trip, which will see the 26-strong party leave on August 6 and return on August 21.

Their first match in the ‘U19 International Series’ will be against France on August 11 (1.15pm BST) before they take on Wales on August 15 (1.15pm BST) and then South Africa Schools on August 19 (August 1pm).

Former Topsham back-row forward/lock Capstick has already represented his country at under-18 and under-17 level and is part of Exeter Chiefs’ Under-18 squad.

He England Under-18 will be led in South African by head coach John Fletcher, along with coaches Russell Earnshaw, Mark Luffman and Peter Walton.

The tour plays a pivotal role in a player’s development through the national age grade programme with three players - Joe Cokanasiga, Ben Curry and Tom Curry - from last year’s U18 group named in the England senior squad for the series against Argentina in June.

In addition, 11 of last year’s squad progressed to feature in the 2017 World Rugby U20 Championship in Georgia which saw England reach the final.

Fletcher said: “I’ve been to South Africa a number of times. It’s a great environment to take the players to as Wales and France are strong opposition from a northern hemisphere point of view while South Africa is a significant test at 18s because they are such a physical team.”
