Wessex enjoy success at Devon Summer Touch Festival

WESSEX enjoyed success at the Devon Summer Touch Rugby Festival at Newton Abbot RFC on Sunday.

Their ‘Eagle Owls’ side ended up winning the tournament with an unbeaten record.

The event attracted nine mixed teams from clubs around the county.

Withycombe and Topsham entered one side each, while Newton Abbot fielded three – The Sharks, Unicorns and Rejects, Wessex two – Wyvern and Eagle Owls – with OPM also entering two – Youth and Ancient.

The competition was run on a double elimination basis and resulted in Eagles Owls meeting Newton Abbot Unicorns in the final, with the Exeter-based side winning a entertaining showpiece contest 5-3.

There was also a friendly final, which was won by OPM Youth, who played the whole tournament with no replacements.
