EXETER Saracens under-11s player Ethan Friend proudly led Devon out on Saturday against Cornwall.

The youngster from Cranbrook won a competition to be Devon’s mascot for the County Championship game.

Devon RFU asked juniors in the county aged between eight and 14 years old to write in less than 100 words why they love rugby.

There were some really great entries and it was very difficult to select a winner and runners-up.

In his entry, Ethan wrote about how he enjoys rugby with his little brother, his friends and his dad and how he likes the feeling of scoring a try.

The runners-up were Luke Glynn, Luka Annan, Hector Ellery, Liam Berry, Taylor Prettejohn, Kieran Long, Thomas Fitzpatrick Rowley, Toby Denning, Oliver Mitchell, Lachlann Hooper, Harry Westlake, who were all invited to be ball boys at Saturday’s game.

They got the chance to meet England mascot Peter Cross.
