The Devon girls’ U15 season is underway after two long assessment days at Okehampton College on April 10 and May 8.

The first assessment day once again saw more than 100 girls attend from 14 different clubs in Devon.

The girls were split into five groups and took part in a carousel of skill specific games led by volunteer club coaches whilst county coaches from the U15 and U18 set up assessed, alongside current and ex-Exeter Chief players Clara Nielson, Olivia Churcher and Amelia Dennis, who have all progressed through the Devon U15 set up themselves.

From that first day, 68 girls went through to the second assessment which saw them split into four teams playing in a round robin of 15-a-side games.

The standard was once again extremely high and the task of selecting a final squad was not an easy task, but now 35 players have today been informed of their success in making the final squad.

In a very congested season, the girls will train at north Tawton RFC for the next three Fridays before travelling to North Bristol RFC on Sunday, May 15 to take part in an X10s tournament against Cornwall, Gloucestershire and Somerset.

They will be at home on May 22 in a 15-a-side festival at Tavistock RFC before finishing the season in a one-off 15-a-side game against Cornwall at a venue to be confirmed.

The county coaches Hammy Kerswill, Will Reed, Jennie Moss and manage Mhairi McCall would like to thank all of those girls who trialled for the county, DRRS for supplying referees and in particular club coaches who offered their time to help run the assessment days, without them the days would not have been successful or able to run.
