DEVON U16s completed their county program in fine style at Trowbridge RFC on Sunday against a strong Dorset & Wiltshire squad containing many Bath academy players.

Devon’s A team completed a clean sweep of wins this season with a 35-27 victory over their Dorset & Wiltshire counterparts.

It was their fourth win out of four, having also beaten Somerset, Gloucestershire and Cornwall.

The Green and Whites started well at Trowbridge and took a 14-point lead.

Dorset & Wilts fought back into the game but to their credit Devon regained their composure to run winners.

Jack Ballot scored a hat-trick of tries, with Ben Steele-Flood and Charlie Pasmore also crossing the whitewash, while Oliver Nicks kicked five conversions.

Devon’s B team ended their campaign with a 19-19 draw. In tough, wind conditions, all the Devon players excelled and it needed a last minute converted try for the home team snatch a draw.

Joseph Bastin, Jo Bailey and Tan Mercan scored tries for Devon, with Ben Chaffey kicking two conversions.

“Every player involved in this year’s program has done themselves and the county proud,” said Devon’s Marcus Webb. “The effort and application they have shown has been reflected in the performances they have produced over the last six weeks.

“As a group of coaches we could not have asked for any more and it has been a pleasure to coach this group of players.”
