THE inaugural Planet Earth Games took place at Exeter on Saturday and successfully featured a girls’ under-13 touch event and a walking rugby demonstration.
Devon clubs Exeter Saracens, Paignton, Sidmouth and South Molton all had teams in the under-13 touch festival. Many of the girls were new to rugby but all impressed and produced some entertaining and fun games.
Many of the youngsters’ parents and supporters then showed off their skills by joining in the walking rugby demonstration.
The Planet Earth Games, which took place at Exwick Sports Hub, were a unique environment-themed multi-sports event and as well as rugby there was a football competition, as well as a wide range of activities for all ages including tennis, paddle boarding, cycling, trail walking, raft building, canoeing and a Village Green area with food and other vendors highlighting the best in sustainability.
Devon RFU president Treve Mitchell attended the event, along with junior and mini chairman Nigel Middleton.
