Devon name their team for big game with Cornwall

DEVON will be looking to finish with two wins out of three in the Bill Beaumont County Championship when they host Cornwall at Brixham on Saturday (2.30pm).

The Green and Whites got back to winning ways last weekend when they overcame Hampshire 30-27 thanks to a last-gasp penalty from his own half by Plymouth Albion fly-half Dan Mugford.

Devon’s victory sets up a thrilling clash with Cornwall, who sit top of the group with two wins out of two. Cornwall will reach Twickenham if they win at Brixham, but Devon could still finish ahead of them if they were to pick up another full five points and deny their cross-Tamar rivals anything.

“It will be a massive game and it is all to play for,” said Devon head coach Dan Parkes. “There should be a massive crowd at Brixham and we are looking forward to it.”

Devon will be without Mugford and fellow Plymouth Albion players John Kelly and Cameron Setter this weekend, but they are able to welcome back Brixham’s Sam and Adam Thomas back into the squad.

Exmouth’s Charlie Tribble also comes into the starting line-up after Ivybridge’s Matt Finn picked up a knock last week against Hampshire.

The game at Brixham kick-off at 2.30pm, but gates at Astley Park will open at 12.30pm and, as a large crowd is expected, spectators are asked to arrive early.

There will be no general parking at the ground, other than for blue badge holders, who have already reserved a space, but there will be general parking at a nearby school.
